Richard G. Swett, husband of the late Barbara M. (Flynn) Swett, a long time resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at D'Youville Senior Care following a period of declining health. He was 90.
Born in Lowell on April 18, 1924, he was a son of the late Ernest A. and Rose M. (Filiatrault) Swett.
Mr. Swett enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a fire control man. Prior to his retirement, Richard was a serviceman for N.C.R. Corp. in Lowell.
He was a communicant of St. Michael Parish, and a member of the East End Club where he played in their cribbage league for more than 25 years.
Surviving him are three sons; Robert Swett and his wife Judy of Diamond, OH, William Swett and his wife Martha of Lowell, Gary Swett and his wife Barbara of Dracut, two daughters; Kathie Hunt and her husband Scott and Nancy Merrill and her husband Charles, all of Lowell; ten grandchildren; Melissa Alonardo and her husband Michael, Matthew Hunt and his wife Kristine, Michaela Merrill, Katherine Merrill-Horne and her husband Olan, Christina Swett, Andrea Scott and her husband Richard, Christopher Swett, Stephen Swett, Shawn Swett and his wife Patricia, Patrick Swett and his wife Kaitlin; fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Richard E. Swett, a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, and brother of the late Dorothy Smith, Rita Fournier and Ruth Swett.
