Richard John Souza

Richard Souza, 78, a forty-one year resident of Dracut, passed away on Wednesday August 21, 2013 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Allosso) Souza of Dracut, with whom he has been married for over 56 years.
Born and raised in Cambridge, he was a son of the late Manuel and Pauline Souza.
For over twenty years, Richard was employed by Sealtest Foods in Framingham until his retirement in 1988.
Richard had many interests including, participating in bowling leagues, playing pool, listening to and recording music, and volunteering at Cub Scouts. He was an avid Boston Braves and Red Sox fan as well as a fantasy baseball enthusiast. Through his love of game, he was very involved in the Dracut Baseball and Softball Association for many years, having coached and mentored his children and grandchildren, umpired for the leagues and served as former board member for the association for many years. He was a faithful parishioner and volunteer at St. Michael Parish in Lowell.
In addition to his loving wife, Nancy, he is survived by his children, Edward Souza and his wife, Tracey of Dracut, Debra Madigan and her husband, Mark of Milford, NH, Carol Purpura and her husband, Robert of Dracut, Joseph Souza and his wife, Michelle of Hooksett, NH; 7 grandchildren: Jonathan Souza, James Madigan, Mark Madigan Jr., Michael Purpura, Danielle, Julianne and Nicole Souza; and a sister Pauline Perry of Burlington. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Budra and a brother Manuel Souza.
