Richard J. Smith

Lowell - Richard J. Smith, Jr., "Smiley", 48, a resident of the Christian Hill section of Centralville of Lowell died unexpectedly Thursday March 1, at the Saints Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Lowell on December 1, 1958 a son of the late Richard J. Smith, Sr. and Mary Lorraine (Shugrue) Smith of Lowell who survives him. Mr. Smith was employed for many years in the maintenance department for Amtrak Railways. He was also a communicant of St. Michael Church. He enjoyed reading and going to the movies.
Surviving him besides his mother are two brothers and sisters in law, William H. and Jennifer Smith of Tewksbury, Paul E. and Micheline Smith of Nashua, NH; three sisters and two brothers in law, Anne Marie and Mark Noonan of Lowell, Ellen Altobello of Salem, NH, Katie and Mark Cox of Lowell; sixteen nieces and nephews, Sherry Sargent of Deltona, FL, William and Thomas Sargent, both of Lowell, Erica, Stephen, Nathan, Rebecca, Jessica, and Kristina Smith all of Tewksbury, Michael, Derek, and Joseph Altobello all of Salem, NH, Zachary Smith and Christopher and Jeremy Cox all of Nashua, NH and Samantha Glaude of Lowell; godmother and aunt Anne Harvey of Nashua, NH; aunts and uncles, Frederick and Lorretta Shugrue of Loudon, NH, Robert and Carol Shugrue of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and many cousins. He was a friend of Bill W. He was also the uncle of the late Angela Altobello.
