LOWELL - Richard N. "Babe" Langlois, 80, a resident of the Christian Hill neighborhood in the Centralville section of Lowell passed away on Wednesday evening, January 16, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn M. (Bowser) Langlois with whom he celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on May 27, 2018.
Born in Lowell on December 23, 1938, he was a son of the late Leo and Blanche (Martin) Langlois.
Babe served with the United States Army from January, 1962 until his Honorable Discharge in December, 1963.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Hostess Cake Company.
An outgoing and generous person, he gave of his time to St. Michael Parish as an usher and coach with the CYO basketball team. He also was a long time bowler with the St. Michael Holy Name bowling league.
He enjoyed all New England sports teams; Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, but especially enjoyed going to the horse racing events at Rockingham Park.
Family was most important to Babe. He especially enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons, who affectionately called him Papa Babe.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, he leaves a daughter, Susan Langlois-Santee and her husband Mark of Dracut, two grandsons; Alan and Joshua Santee both of Dracut, two brothers; Gerald Langlois and his wife Patricia of Dracut and Roland Langlois of Florida, a sister; Constance Higgins of Lowell, also many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Ernest Langlois, Pauline Compton, Jacqueline Sheehan and Raymond Langlois who died in infancy.
LANGLOIS - Relatives and friends are invited to Babe's Life Celebration on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 11 AM in St. Michael Church. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery.
