Richard J. Kiernan, Sr., … age 78, retired Lowell Firefighter
DRACUT – Richard J. Kiernan, Sr., 78, a resident of Dracut, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Lowell General Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary F. (Burke) Kiernan with whom he was married for 54 years.
Born in Lowell on July 20, 1932, he was a son of the late Mary Veronica (Crombrie) Kiernan.
Mr. Kiernan enlisted with the United States Marines in 1952 and served during the Korean War until his Honorable Discharge in 1955. He was a member of the Tyngsboro American Legion Post 247.
He was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Lowell having been brought up in the Centralville Section. He and his wife Mary lived for many years in the Pawtucketville Section of Lowell prior to settling in Dracut. Mr. Kiernan coached baseball and softball for the PYO for over 25 years.
Mr. Kiernan bowled with the Clover Leafs Bowling League at the Brunswick Bowling Alley in Lowell.
He was a retired firefighter for the City of Lowell having been stationed at Engine 10.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Richard J. Kiernan, Jr. and his wife Paula of Bellingham; three daughters, Sandra Geoffroy of Tyngsboro, Linda Santos and her husband Frederick of Newton, NH and Kelly Bourret and her husband Raymond of Lowell; three sisters, Helen Boyajian of Methuen, Kathryn Denault and her husband Victor of Lowell and Mary Kiernan of FL; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Kiernan and Shirley Kiernan, both of Lowell; ten grandchildren, Richard J. Kiernan, III, Molly and Timothy Kiernan, Lindsay, Thomas and Steven Geoffroy, Sean, Shayla and Kaleigh Santos and Jason Bourret; also several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Karen Kiernan, grandfather of the late Matthew Kiernan, father-in-law of the late Kevin Geoffroy and brother of the late Margaret Davis, John, Raymond, Edward and Cormick Kiernan.
