Richard J. Harrison, age 86, died at his home on Friday, May 17, 2024. He was the beloved husband for 58 years to the late Monique O. (Belanger) Harrison, until her passing in 2020.
He was born in Dorchester, MA on November 23, 1937, and was a son of the late Gertrude M. (Lausier) and George R. Harrison. Upon graduating from high school, Richard proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. He later worked as a chief cook for the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the Greater Lowell Umpires Association for over 25 years.
In his retirement, you could find Richard at Hamel Brothers Auto Service in Lowell, where he “worked” for the last 30 years. He also was the “dishwasher” at Let’s Eat In.
He enjoyed going to Foxwoods and cherished his twice-yearly overnight trips with the guys.
Richard is survived by his two sons, Robert Harrison and his wife Beth (Hauze) of Venice, FL and Steven Harrison and his wife Terri (Hreha) of Westford; his daughter, Janet Harrison of Brattleboro, VT; his four grandchildren, Tyler Harrison, Jason Shatney, Brett Harrison and his wife Brianna and Nicole Harrison; his two great-grandchildren, Brantley and Mariana; his two sisters, Ann Tanguay of Merrimack, NH and Aline Cameron and her husband James of Lowell; his sister-in-law, Joan (Dery) Harrison of Lowell; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was the brother of the late George F. Harrison and brother-in-law of the late Joseph Tanguay.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richard’s Life Celebration on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 9 until 11 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, Lowell. His Funeral Service will be celebrated immediately following at 11 AM in the funeral home. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to D’Youville Senior Care, 981 Varnum Avenue, Lowell. MA 01854.
