Richard Michael Carter, Sr., 72, a resident of Dracut, died Friday afternoon, November 13, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Edith M. (McHatton) Carter, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26th of this year.
Born in Lowell on November 21, 1942, he was a son of the late Ted A. and Gloria S. (Dumont) Carter.
Mr. Carter was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1961. He also attended Bentley College for 2 years and received an Associate Degree in accounting/business from Middlesex Community College.
He was the owner/operator of both Carter's Bookkeeping Service and Carter's Constable Service for over 30 years. He was also a substitute teacher for Greater Lowell Technical High School.
Dick had many interests and hobbies, he was a bingo caller in the Greater Lowell community, loved trains, enjoyed gardening and spent many hours playing bingo rummy, chess and cribbage. Dick was a Fourth Degree Member of the Lowell Knights of Columbus, #72 and was a life member of the East End Club.
Dick enjoyed many summers camping at Salmon's Point Campground in Bridgton, ME where he loved watching and playing with his grandchildren. He was a huge fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his wife Edith, he is survived his daughter, Nancy Carter of Dracut; his son, Richard Carter, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Waterford, ME; his grandchildren, Elijah Merserve, Dillon Greenier and Sarah, Jonathan, Anthony and Trevor Carter, all of Waterford, ME. Dick is also survived by his aunt, Jeannette Dumont and his uncle, Roland Dumont and his wife Ellen, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
