Richard J. "Dick" Berard, 74, a longtime resident of the Centralville section of the city, passed away on Tuesday July 28, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease surrounded by his loving family at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne G. (Thibeault) Berard of Lowell with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on August 17, 1940 he was a son of the late Leo and Florence (Perron) Berard.
Richard attended St. Louis Elementary School in Lowell and went on to graduate from St. Joseph High School in 1959.
Prior to his retirement, Dick was employed by Astro Circuits, Raytheon and Teradyne.
Richard was a true family man and cherished all of the time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing chess, checkers, pool and cards. He was also an avid New England sports fan.
Dick was a member of the former St. Louis de France Parish of Lowell and was involved in their annual Christmas fair and bingo events. He was a founding member of the Parish Center SL Inc. and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was currently a parishioner of St. Francis Church in Dracut.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children Michael and Helen Berard of Dracut, Kenneth Berard of Lowell, Catherine and Richard Marquis of Pepperell, Kimberly and James Gugliuzza of Haverhill, Ann and Michael Kaszuk of Windham, NH, Corey Berard of Lowell, Diane and Michael Farnell of Salem, NH, Susan and Paul Stanton of Dracut; 12 grandchildren; his siblings, Raymond E. and Therese Berard of Lowell, Roland A. and Rachel Berard of Lowell, Leo R. Berard of Lowell, Gerard L. and Lynne Berard of Michigan, Pauline J. and James Lankford of Hudson, NH, Irene T. and William Sheehan, Jr. of Lowell, Teresa A. Berard of Lowell, Jeanne F. and Paul McNamara of Dracut; several nieces and nephews.
