Rev. William J. Hallahan, O.M.I., 88 years of age, died on April 3, 2021 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, MA. He was born in New York City. He was predeceased by his parents, William J. Hallahan, Sr., and Frances (Buckley) Hallahan and his beloved sister, Catherine.

Fr. Hallahan professed his first vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on September 8, 1953 in Ipswich, MA. On September 8, 1956, he professed his final vows in Washington, D.C. where he was also Ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1959 by the late Bishop Francis J. McSorley, O.M.I., Vicar Apostolic of Jolo, Philippines.

Fr. Hallahan attended high school in Newburgh, NY. He continued his education at the Oblate Novitiate in Ipswich, MA from 1952-1953 then completed his studies in philosophy and theology in Washington, DC between 1953 and 1960. In 1973 he attended Canisius College, Buffalo, NY where he received a M.A. in Religious Education. In 1984 he received a M.A. in Psychology with emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Antioch University West, San Francisco, CA. He was a certified mental health counselor with the Washington State Department of Health and a certified group psychotherapist (AGPA).

During his active years, Fr. Hallahan did parish ministry at Holy Angels Parish, Buffalo, NY; St. Mary Parish, Oakland, CA and at St. Benedict and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parishes, Seattle, WA. He served in other areas as well. He was a Vocation Director for two years then served in the Oblate Renewal Program in Lafayette, CA. Later he was chaplain to the Carmelite Sisters of Carmel, CA. He also ministered in the area of education at Bishop Neumann High School, Buffalo, NY and Central High School, Grand Rapids, MI. In 2018, due to declining health, he joined the community at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, MA.

Fr. Hallahan is survived by his Oblate family and by his many friends in Seattle, Washington, and California.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, funeral services will be private. Internment will be in the Oblate Cemetery in Tewksbury, MA.
