Missionary Oblate Priest for 62 Years

Rev. Paul E. Medeiros, OMI, 89, passed away on March 26, 2026, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence, Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, son of the late Paul and Florida (Mandeville) Medeiros.

Father Medeiros entered the Oblate Novitiate in Colebrook, NH in 1954, where he made his first profession on August 2, 1955. He was ordained into the priesthood on January 19, 1964, by the late Bishop Jean Louis Joseph Collignon, OMI in Lowell, MA.

Following ordination, Father Paul was assigned to the Oblate Mission in Sao Paolo, Brazil, where he began his ministry as an English/French Teacher at the Minor Seminary in Pocos De Caldas (1964-1968). He then served as Pastor at St. Sebastian Parish in Pocos De Caldas (1968-1974; 1978-1989). Father Paul ministered at several parishes in the Sao Paolo area; Sacred Heart Parish (1974-1977), St. Matthew’s (1990-1994), Vila Remo Parish (1995-1997), and Ste. Antonio (2000-2011). From 1998-2000, Father Paul served as Assistant Formation Director at Agua Funda Parish. He retired at the Provincial House in Sao Paolo (2011-2022). He enjoyed yearly trips to New England and in 2022, Father Paul retired to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, MA, where he lived until he passed.

Father Paul was pre-deceased by his beloved sister, Sister Lucille Medeiros, a member of the Sisters of Holy Cross in Manchester, NH.

Friends and family are invited to Morning Prayer and Visitation for Fr. Medeiros at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 486 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA on Wednesday, April 1st beginning at 9:00 AM.
