Fr. Boucher entered the Oblate Novitiate in Colebrook, NH, on August 1, 1952. He professed his first vows on August 2, 1953. His studies continued at the Oblate Scholasticate in Natick, MA, and he was ordained to the priesthood on September 15th, 1958, by the late Bishop Jean-Louis Collignon, O.M.I.
He ministered in several different capacities over the years. Fr. Boucher served in parish ministry in Wisconsin (St. Louis Parish), Massachusetts (Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish, Sacred Heart /Saint Marie Parishes), Maine (St. Mary of Lourdes Parish), New Hampshire (St. Mary Parish), Florida (St. Francis of Assisi Parish), and in the Oblate missions in Tahiti. Fr. Boucher prepared for his mission work in Tahiti by attending the University of Hawaii to learn the Tahitian language and culture. He served there for five years (1985-1990).
Fr. Boucher was a professor for eight years, teaching at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Bucksport, ME and at LaSalette Seminary in Enfield, NH. He was also assigned for several years to Our Lady Queen Apostles Retreat House in Hudson, NH, where he was Director of Programs, Superior, and Director of the Retreat House. During his years in Hudson, Fr. Boucher also was a member of the Oblate Provincial Council. For over ten years, he was the Parochial Vicar at St. Francis of Assisi (Riviera Beach, FL) in the winter months and supported Holy Family Parish (Lowell, MA) in the summer months, before retiring from active ministry at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, MA.
In addition to his Oblate family, Fr. Boucher is survived by his sisters, Doris Gagnon of Salem, MA, and Odette Nadeau of Fort Kent, ME as well as his brother, Melvin Boucher of Weymouth, MA. He was predeceased by twelve brothers and sisters: Rev. Nelson Boucher, Lorette Labrie, Lawrence Boucher, Dr. Norman Boucher, Raymond Boucher, Valier Boucher, Donald Boucher, Yvette Boucher, Raymond Boucher, Richard Boucher, Joseph Boucher and Sr. Theresa Boucher.
Friends and family are invited to Fr. Boucher’s Wake at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Chapel at 486 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM on Thursday, August 18th. A Vesper Service will take place at 7:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM at IHM Chapel on Friday, August 19th, followed by burial at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA.
