Dracut

Rene J. Turcotte passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA surrounded by his loving family. Rene was born on July 10, 1935, in Dracut, Massachusetts, the son of George and Irene (Routhier) Turcotte. He was the husband of Dorothy G. Turcotte, who passed away on November 7, 2021. They were married for over 65 years. Together, they raised their family of five daughters in the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, Massachusetts. 

Rene was a parishioner of St. Francis Church in Dracut, MA. He was also a former parishioner of closed Ste. Jeanne d’Arc Church in Lowell, MA. He and his wife were involved as chaperones for the Ste. Jeanne d’Arc CYO. He was an active member of the d’Youville Manor Men’s Guild, Lowell Lodge of Elks as well as a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. 

He graduated from Lowell Trade School as an electrician. He spent much of his working career at General Electric in Burlington (formerly RCA) retiring as the Manager of Facilities. After his retirement from GE in 1993, he was self-employed as an electrician in the Lowell and Dracut area.

He is survived by his four daughters: Renee Plummer and her husband, Don; Gloria Donahue; Karen Dinter and her husband, Heinz; and Christine Robinson and her husband, Kris; and son-in-law Kevin McDermott. He is predeceased by his daughter Elaine Sweeney and son-in-law Drew Donahue. He is also survived by his fifteen special grandchildren: Meagan Guenther, Bradley, and Todd Plummer; Andrew, Matthew and Sean Donahue, Brooke Lovaasen; Beth Hogan, Bridgette Brown, Lindsay McDermott, Ashley Heiser; Heinz Dinter III and Paige Dinter; Wesley and Molly Robinson. He was also blessed with sixteen great-grandchildren, Grae and Marley Guenther, Halston Plummer, Braden Donahue, Maddox, Margot and Darcey Donahue, Landon and Emerson Donahue, Graham, Drew and Amelia Lovaasen, Riley and Brady Hogan, Luke, and Jackson Brown. He also leaves behind his three siblings, brothers Maurice and Paul Turcotte and sister Lucy Hinchy as well as an aunt, Dora Renaud. He was the godfather of Louis Cote, Michele DiMartinis, Jeffrey Turcotte and Eric Fitzgerald.

The family would like to thank the staff at Saints Memorial Hospital and the High Point Hospice House for the care and compassion that was shown to him over the past few weeks. Donations made be in his honor to: High Point House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rene’s Life at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth St., Lowell on Sunday, August 18th from 2:00 until 6:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00am at St. Francis Church in Dracut. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
