Rene C. Cote, beloved husband of the late Janet I. (Gagne) Cote, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2022 with his family by his side. He was 95.
Born in Dracut on July 12, 1927, he was a son of the late Charles and Noella (Fortier) Cote.
Rene grew up in Lowell and graduated from Keith Academy. He enlisted in the US Navy, but was drafted and transferred to the US Army during the Korean War.
Rene and his father owned and operated Cote's Shoe Store for more than 70 years when he retired in 1990. Rene was a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish.
Known to family and friends as the "1927 Classic" they describe him as a quiet man with a keen sense of humor. Holiday's were always celebrated at Rene and Janet's house. He looked forward to family vacations and reunions. Rene loved to play with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving Rene are his three children and their spouses, Rene, Jr and Sara Cote of Atlanta, GA, Steven Cote of Lowell, Pauline Mullin and her husband Lew Peters of Lowell; three grandchildren, Brenna Mullin, Jonathan Mullin and his wife Isa, Davis Ann Weil and her husband Weston; two great grandchildren, Charlie Weil, Annabella Mullin; a brother Marcel Cote of St. Petersburg, Fl; a son in law Tom Mullin of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Rene's Life Celebration in the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, from 10 until 11:30 AM on Tuesday. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11:30 AM. Burial in St. Joseph cemetery. Donations in Rene's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
