Raymond J. Poitras, Jr., 58, most recently a resident of North Reading, passed away on Monday evening, May 18, 2015 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Lowell on May 15, 1957 he was a son of the late Margaret F. (Golden) Poitras and Raymond J. Poitras, Sr. of Lowell who survives him.
Ray was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1975 and attended the University of Lowell, where he studied undergraduate coursework with an emphasis in Business Administration.
He worked as a general manager and consultant in the food service industry throughout the country; including San Diego Sports Arena, Concord Pavillion, Boise State University, Portland Center for the Performing Arts, Ogden Food Service/Boston Concession Group and Sugarbush Mountain.
Ray was an outdoor enthusiast, having lived in Vermont for many years before moving to the West Coast. He enjoyed biking, hiking, hang-gliding, rock climbing, skiing, tennis, cooking and traveling.
He was a generous person and loyal friend to all those who knew him. He loved animals, especially his dogs Lady and Chance.
He was a former resident of Lowell, and while residing here was a member of St. Michael Parish.
In addition to his father he leaves his siblings, Brian Poitras and his wife Teresa of Dunstable, Mary-Jo Antosca and her husband Michael of Windham, NH, Robert Poitras of Lowell, Thomas Poitras of Englewood, FL, Susan Garland and her fiancé Donald Robitaille of Tyngsboro and Christina Cronin and her husband Daniel of Andover; nieces and nephews, William, Brad and Kayla Adie, Jennifer Acosta, Briana McGrade, Tyler and Nicholas Poitras, Daniel Cronin, Jr. and Cailin Cronin; also many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins; two aunts, Eileen Golden of Lowell and Maureen Golden of Pelham, NH. He also leaves a long list of dear friends including Don Wight of Los Angeles, CA and Mavis Fischer of Methuen.
