Raymond F. Messier, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (Roberts) Messier, died on Monday, December 19, 2016, following declining health. He was 99.
Raymond was born in New Bedford on August 1, 1917, the last of ten children born to Joseph and Marie (Savoie) Messier.
He was educated in New Bedford and upon completion of high school, Ray volunteered for service in WWII. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Q Masters and medical branches for 38 months. Raymond served in the Philippines and was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant in the Medical Corps.
When Raymond returned from the service, he worked as a printer. He worked at the former Reynolds Printing, Fairhaven Star, Tearsy Printing in Fall River, Olympia News in Olympia WA, Dartmouth News in Hanover, NH and retired after 36 years of service with Courier Citizen in Lowell. During his retirement years he was affiliated with Thurman Printing in Lowell.
Raymond was the Secretary-Treasurer for the Pressman Union 360 for 11 years.

Surviving Raymond are two daughters and a son in law, Katherine M. and Roland Vaillancourt of Lowell, Elizabeth A. Messier of Medford; three grandchildren, Hilary E. O'Malley of Hyannis, Peter Jon Vaillancourt and his wife Karen of Acton, Molly J. Lyttle and her husband Keith; seven great grandchildren, Sadie, Kimbal, Matthew, Lindsey, Ryan, Maeve and Aren. He was the father of the late Joseph R. Messier.
