DRACUT - Raymond J. Gendreau, 88, a lifelong Dracut resident, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris M. (Ciesla) Gendreau.
Born in Dracut on January 31, 1930, he was a son of the late Albert "Snapper" Gendreau and Marguerite (Perry) Gendreau.
A graduate of Dracut High School, Mr. Gendreau received a Bachelors Degree from Lowell State College and a Masters Degree from Fitchburg State College in Administration. He retired after 16 years from Nashoba Valley Technical High School where he taught in the electronics department.
He served with the United States Navy during the Korean War and remained active with the Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1991. He was a Member of the Dracut American Legion Post 315.
Ray enjoyed restoring and working on antique cars and was a member of the Dracut Road Runners Auto Club.
In his younger years he was an avid runner and competed in area road races including the former Dubliner Road Race.
He leaves three daughters, Kathleen Villemaire and her husband George of Hudson, NH, Judith Gendreau of Fayetteville, NC and her former husband Douglas Fearon of Aiken, SC, and Nancy Gendreau of Fayetteville, NC; a son, Michael Gendreau of Lowell; a brother, Edward Gendreau and his wife Judy of Derry, NH; six grandchildren, George P. Villemaire and his wife Melissa, James R. Villemaire and his significant other Maureen, Tina Arnold and her husband Dave, Tara Fearon, Keri Boatwright and her husband Thomas and Kevin Gendreau and his wife Mona; 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his son, Ronald Gendreau and siblings, Charles, William, Maurice Gendreau and Rita Marchand. He also leaves several dear friends among whom are, Joe Mullen, Bennie Benard and Charlie Pentedemos.
