Raymond E. Gaucher,

November 28, 1959 — December 8, 2020

Raymond E. Gaucher, Jr, also known as Ray Goshay a resident of Dracut, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 after bravely enduring many years of declining health. He was 61.

Born in Lowell on November 28, 1959, a son of the late Raymond "Pepsi" Gaucher, Sr. and Simone (Robarge) Gaucher of Dracut who survives him.

Ray grew up in Lowell and attended St. Louis Elementary School. His family moved to Dracut in the 1970's and he graduated Dracut High School in 1978. He was a member of the chess team while there. He then went on to major in history at the University of Lowell.

Ray had many jobs over the years, beginning at Alexander's Supermarket as a teenager. He worked at several places in the stockroom and shipping and receiving. Later he worked in maintenance and floor care at Northwood Nursing and Rehabilitation and the Christian Formation Center with his Dad. He then went on to work as a nightclub bouncer. He always contended he was a bouncer that never got into a fight. Ray was a big man who preferred to diffuse a situation rather than escalate one.

He was a person with many interests and talents. Ray enjoyed movies, music, sports and working on his computer. He was an avid reader, often in the middle of several books on a wide range of subjects at the same time. He had a vast knowledge of history, especially the civil war.

Ray was a tarot card reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, which were always done with a pen. A gifted artist, his drawing of Don Quixote hangs in RRR Records downtown Lowell.

Ray was probably most proud of his great memory and his intellect. "I always considered myself to be some sort of genius." His IQ scores and many that knew him would surely attest. He generously imparted his knowledge, wit, and wisdom to others.

As far as his talents, Ray was a singer and guitarist who wrote, performed, recorded and published his songs under the name "Ray Goshay." He enjoyed going to karaoke nights with his mom.

Ray also accomplished extensive writing of prose and poetry. Several years ago he wrote music reviews for The Phoenix and Metronome magazines. He was a very generous person. Generous with his time. Always willing to chat with a family member or go for a long car ride with a friend. Ray was never too busy to lend an ear.

Ray was an exceptional gift giver. Throughout the year, whether it was something somebody mentioned or something he thought you might like, Ray was always happy to find it, or make it himself and present it. He graciously appreciated acts of kindness in return.

No one could wish for a more kind and supportive son and brother. Besides his mother Simone he is survived by a brother Dean Gaucher and his companion Kara; a sister Robin Lynn Gaucher and her companion Marvin; a loving nephew Jimmy; his cherished niece and God daughter Bonnie and her friend Kyle; his most recent treasures, grand nephews Marck, Eddie and grand niece Abigail. He had an extended family of relatives past and present, with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins including his God parents, Aunt Pat and Uncle Roland Robarge.

Ray was a fun, humorous and loyal friend, which is why he had so many. He was deeply saddened as several of them have passed over the last few years.

So loving and so loved; rest in peace Ray. Continue your endeavors wherever you may be. You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by those of us still here.

Due to the current health crisis a Life Celebration for Ray will be planned for a later date.
