Raymond J. Dame

Raymond J. Dame, 92, a longtime Dracut resident died Sunday May 19, 2013 at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Yolande (Germain) Dame.
Born in North Adams on October 29, 1920, he was a son of the late Rosario J. and Alexina (Labrie) Dame.
Ray enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. He served with honor to defend the nation in the 11th Armored Division /US Third Army, commanded by General George Smith Patton.
Following his discharge from the Army, Ray began his career as a machinist in the Lowell Boott Mills. He continued his career as a machinist for 35 years at Hanscom Air Force Base until his retirement in 1978.
He was an avid baseball player in his youth, having been a standout player with the Aiken Stars semi-pro baseball team in Lowell. He also received a personal invitation to try-out for the St. Louis Cardinals major league baseball team. He was an outdoorsman at heart, having enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Ray was very active with the Dracut Senior Citizens and was a communicant of Ste. Marguerite d'Youville Parish in Dracut.
Survivors include a son, Raymond R. Dame and his wife, Kathy of Methuen; two daughters, Elaine M. Valcourt and her husband, Ray of Tyngsboro, Diane P. LaVarnway and her husband, Bill of Dunstable; a longtime companion, Lucille Lemieux of Londonderry; seven grandchildren, Derek, Lance, Keith, Nathan, Jarod, Nicole and Rachel; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late, Henry Dame, Bertha Laplante, Edward "Eddie" Dame, Pauline Morin, Leo Dame and Yvonne Hoar.
