Raymond C. Cox, a Lowell resident and beloved husband of Claire J. (Dickey) Cox, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 following a period of declining health. He was 87.
Born in Lowell on September 1, 1934, he was a son of the late Frank and Anna (Gill) Cox. Ray was a 1953 graduate of Lowell High School. He married his high school sweetheart and best friend Claire on September 29, 1956. They would have celebrated their 66th anniversary this year.
Ray retired from John Hancock as a sales manager following 20 years of service. He later embarked on his second career in auto sales for the next 20 years, finishing with Iverson Ford.
Ray was a member of the Haverhill Country Club, where he was granted a lifetime membership. He was also a former member of the Haverhill Elks Lodge #165. Ray and Claire resided in Haverhill for several years prior to returning to Lowell.
Sports was Ray's passion, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He loved golf and spending time with his friends. Ray and Claire traveled extensively. They visited Europe, the Caribbean Islands and enjoyed many cruises. He was a fun loving person who adored spending time with his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.
Surviving him besides Claire, his wife of 65 years are his son and daughter in law, Raymond II and Jocelyn (Brodie) Cox of Chester, NH; 5 grandchildren, Laurie, Eric, Brendan and his wife Kate, Bryan and his wife Christine, Maureen and her husband Steve; 13 great grandchildren, Britney, Aubrey, Caleb, Cameron, Jack, Luke, Anna, Henry, Declan, Maeve, Jayden, Quinn, and Emmie Mae; 4 great great grandchildren, Mason, Kingston, Chase and Blake; a brother and sister in law, Fred and Jennie Cox of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frances, Barbara Rousos, John, Eddie, Robert, Patrick, Mary Jane Tatsios, Ann Marie Tomlinson and Michael Cox.
Relatives and Friends are invited to Ray's Life Celebration in the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, from 4 until 8 PM on Wednesday, August 31st. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 1st at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church. 12 6th Street, Lowell. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
