Phyllis Ann (Hamm) Dexter

March 30, 1932 — August 21, 2018

Pelham, NH - Phyllis Ann (Hamm) Dexter, 86, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 21st, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lowell on March 30, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Clancy) Hamm.
Phyllis was a graduate of the Class of 1950 at Lowell High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Robert, Class of 1949. They were married for 49 years before he passed away on December 15, 2000.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish of Pelham, NH, a member of St. Patrick's Women's Guild and Pelham Senior Citizens. She loved to read, watch television and play cards.
Phyllis retired from Solomon Mental Health Center where she worked as a switchboard receptionist for 13 years.
After her retirement, she worked with the elderly as a caregiver, cleaned houses, volunteered at the Pelham Food Pantry, the St. Patrick's Hospitality Group and the Salem Caregivers.
Her family was the most important thing to her. Phyllis always hosted a cookout on July 4th so all the nieces and nephews could get to know one another. Friends were also invited.
Her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren would spend a week in July with her. Thanksgiving was a big family get together, you could invite anyone you wanted also.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters; Deborah Lucy and her husband Evan of Conway, NH, and Dorothy Bergeron and her husband Peter of Pelham, NH, two sons; Michael Dexter and his wife Karen of Pelham, NH, and Stephen Dexter and his wife Brenda of Albany, NH; six grandchildren, Joshua Snell of Albany, NH, Aaron Snell and his wife Adrienne of Madison, NH, Danielle Sullivan and her husband Greg of Medfield, MA, Angela O'Neill and her husband Brian of Wilmington, MA, Sophie Edward and her husband Eric of Madison, NH, Thomas Zestal and his companion Meghan of Tamworth, NH; seven great grandchildren, Logan and Brodie Snell of Albany, NH, Chase and Conor Sullivan of Medfield, MA, Kaden and Hadley Snell of Madison, NH, Mallory O'Neill of Wilmington, MA; a sister, Helen LaRue of Marlboro, MA; three brothers, James Hamm and his wife Norma and Robert Hamm, all of Los Gatos, CA, and Kenneth Hamm and his wife Jayne of Las Vegas, NV, two Godsons; Kenneth Hamm of NY and Kenneth LaRue of Lowell, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was also a sister of the late Frank Messer and his wife Phyllis.

DEXTER - Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Dexter's Life Celebration on Friday, Aug. 24, from 4 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 AM in St. Patrick Church, 12 Main Street, Pelham, NH. Burial will follow in the Gibson Cemetery, Pelham, NH.
