Philip E. Colburn

HAMPTON, NH - Philip E. Colburn, Jr., 97, a resident of Hampton, NH and former longtime resident of Lowell died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Pines of Newmarket in Newmarket, NH. He was the beloved husband of the late Grace E. (Bovill) Colburn, who died in 1988 and the late Alice (LeClair) Colburn, who died in 2014.

He was born in Lowell on May 11, 1920, and was the son of the late Philip E. Colburn, Sr. and Leta (Thompson) Colburn. He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

Prior to his retirement, Philip was employed for many years as a superintendent by New England Carbide Tool in Peabody, MA.

He was a Mason for 71 years and was very active in several area lodges. He was a life member and past Master of the Ancient York Masonic Lodge; and a member of Lowell Scottish Rite, the Pulpit Rock Lodge in Pelham, NH, and the Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington, MA; and a member and past secretary of the advisory board for the Lowell Chapter of the Order of DeMolay.

Philip was also very active with the Lions Club of Wakefield, NH and received the Lions Club's highest honor, the Melvin Jones Fellowship, which recognizes a person's commitment to humanitarian services.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lowell, a Life Member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and a former vice chair of the Wakefield, NH Zoning Board of Appeals.

Philip was an avid reader and was very talented at woodworking.

He was known for being a very kind and giving person and he would do all he could to help someone in need.

Philip is survived by two sons, Robert J. Colburn and his wife Barbara of Hampton, NH and Philip E. Colburn, III and his wife MaryLyn of The Villages, Florida; three grandchildren, Jennifer Wiles and her husband Jeremy of Alexandria, VA, Julie Giniewicz and her husband Eric of Pelham, NH, and Lynda Biron and her husband David of Windsor, CT; five great grandchildren, Alex Biron, Andrew Biron, Sara Giniewicz, Ethan Giniewicz, and Amelia Wiles; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Eleanor Holgate.
