Peter F. Curran

Lowell - Peter F. Curran, XII, age 90, widower of Dorothy L. (Pratt) Curran, died May 21, 2008 following a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was a lifelong resident of the Christian Hill section of Lowell. Born on March 27, 1918 in the former St. Joseph Hospital, he was the son of the late Peter F. Curran, XI and Katherine M. (Reilly) Curran.
Peter graduated from Lowell High School with honors and perfect attendance. He then graduated from the former Lowell Business College and then the Army Air Corps Officers School in 1943.
Mr. Curran served as a captain in the US Army Air Corps, Special Intelligence Unit, and was stationed in Manila and the Philippines during WWII. During his time in the Army Air Corps he was first stationed at Camp Beale, CA as a 1st Lt, then 2nd LT. in the 330th Fighter Squadron at the Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA. He was then in the 4th Fighter Command in Oakland, CA, and the 329th Fighter Command from Glendale, CA. He graduated Officer Candidate School in Miami Beach, FL on January 12th 1943, then obtaining the rank of Captain.
Mr. Curran was employed as a photo lithographer at Sullivan Bros. Printing for more than 50 years.
He was a communicant of St. Michael Church. He was also a member of the American legion Post 0462.
Mr. Curran belonged to several camera clubs during his youth before the war, including the Lowell camera club and New England Camera Club. He was annual member of WGBH Channel 2, where he enjoyed watching concerts of Andre Riew.
He enjoyed going on weekend rides and getaways throughout New England, taking pictures and developing them in his own dark room.
Peter was a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed listening to AM radio talk shows and reading cowboy and mystery books.
He was a kind loving and gentle man who was devoted to his family and cherished time spent with them.
Survivors include a daughter Pamela A. Curran; a son Peter E. Curran, both of Lowell. He was the father of the late Michael F. Curran and brother of the late May E. Curran.
Curran - Peter F. Curran, XII, age 90. Relatives and friends may call at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, from 4 until 8 PM on Tuesday.
