Paul R. Healey, a Dracut resident and the beloved husband and best friend of Donna M. (Calder) Healey, died at the Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness. He passed on Thursday March 27, 2014, which was his 64th birthday.
Paul was born in Lawrence on March 27, 1950, a son of the late Paul F. Healey and Lucille (Perrault) Healey of Lawrence who survives him.
He was educated in Lawrence and enlisted in the Air Force upon graduation. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the service he was a radiologist. After Paul's discharge he came home and became a sonographer. He then was a professor of sonography at Middlesex Community College. Later he changed careers and became a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Salem, NH where he retired.
Paul benefited from many hobbies and a broad range of talents. He took great pride and enjoyment in restoring his 1870's home where he built a Koi pond to enjoy with his family. Paul was a computer enthusiast. He enjoyed photography, bird watching, and Star Trek.
Paul was an ardent Red Sox fan and looked forward to traveling to Ft. Myers with Donna to watch spring training. He also enjoyed his trips to Washington, DC, Disney World, Belgrade, ME, or just being at his home. He was also passionate about the Beatles. Paul would quote song lyrics and embed family slide shows with their songs. Family members stated that Paul McCartney was an influential person in his life. Above all family was paramount to him, especially his grandchildren. Whether it was gathering for Sunday dinner or sitting by his pond, Paul enjoyed every minute spent with his family.
Family describes him as a smart and dependable person who could be stubborn and sarcastic. His quick wit would make others laugh.
Surviving him besides his mother and wife of 33 years are his children, John Healey of Lawrence, Elaine Fone of Epsom, NH, Erin Healey and her husband James Moran of Shirley, Stephanie Lambert and her husband Brian of Nashua, NH; a sister Diane Smith and her husband John Pydynkowski; six grandchildren, Christopher, Kennedy, Callie, Savanna, Penelope and Patrick. He was also the brother of the late Christine F. Healey.
