Paul L. Allen, 89, a longtime resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at a local healthcare facility. He was predeceased by his longtime companion Nancy Graham.
Born in Lowell on November 24, 1926, he was a son of the late Orrin and Margaret V. (Feeney) Allen.
A Veteran of World War II, Paul served with the United States Navy receiving the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal.
In his younger years Paul was the owner/operator of the Shell Station located on the corner of Bridge and Sixth Streets in Lowell. He went on to become a police officer at the University of Lowell Campus retiring in 1990 following many years of service.
He was also the former president and bartender at the East End Club of Lowell for over 45 years. He was an outstanding member of the community working endless hours helping at many fundraisers, including those for the children and less fortunate of Lowell. He was also dedicated to volunteering at the Paul Center in Chelmsford. You could find him cooking on the Holidays for members of the East End Club who had no place to go for the Holidays.
Paul also enjoyed his time walking while taking in the nice weather at Hampton Beach. He loved travelling to Las Vegas and Aruba with friends. He will be sorely missed by all.
He leaves behind Laurie (Graham) Jacques of Dracut who spent many years caring for him, Deborah and George Gavriel of Lowell, Kevin and Cheryl Graham of Billerica and Scott Graham of Lowell; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Predeceased by Nancy's sons, James and Jeff Graham, his siblings, Orrin, Raymond, Charles and Richard Allen and Margaret (Allen) Grimshaw.
