DRACUT- Patrick J. Welch, Jr., 72, a resident of Newburyport for sixty nine years and of Dracut for the past three years, died Sunday August 15, 2010 at the Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by family, following an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Patricia T. (Hall)(Martineau) Welch with whom he would have celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary on August 24, 2010.
Born in Newburyport on April 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Patrick J. Welch, Sr. and Mary (Murray) Welch.
Patrick was a 1955 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Newburyport.
In 1956 Patrick enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Roosevelt and The USS Saratoga for a Mediterranean tour of duty.
Patrick was a delivery driver for UPS for eighteen years and was a member of Teamsters local 49. Most recently he was the owner/operator of A-Cleaning Company in Newburyport. For many years he was a Newburyport City Councilor. Pat was served on the board of the organization Turning Point. He was a member of the Newburyport Lodge of Elks. Patrick was a also a former member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport. Pat was a friend of Bill W.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Patrick J. Welch, III of Amesbury, Kathleen Barbagallo and her husband, Joseph of Methuen, Daniel R. Welch and his wife, Lynn of Salisbury, Kevin M. Welch of Amesbury; four Stepchildren, Susan M. Wagner and her companion, Frank Yeschanin of Hudson, NH, Kathy Rocheleau and her husband, Jeffrey of Methuen, David Martineau and his wife, Holly of Tewksbury, Paul Martineau of Townsend; a sister, Margaret Rymsha of Newburyport; fourteen grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; many brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
