W. Neil Collins, 59, of Tewksbury died on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Tewksbury Hospital following a brief onset of cancer.
Born in Lowell, he was a son of William C. Collins of N. Andover and the late Shirley A. (Borrelli) Ingeme.
Neil was a 1969 graduate of Lowell High School. He worked for many years at the former Lowell Gas Company and later Sears Roebuck until illness forced his retirement. Neil volunteered his time with the local Chapters of the Jaycees and Multiple Sclerosis Society.
In 1971, Neil was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. For 40 years he fought the disease with humility and courage. Neil has been a resident of Tewksbury Hospital for nearly a decade where he received excellent medical care.
In addition to his father, Neil is survived a son, Tony Monteiro and his wife, Pamela of Tyngsboro; his sisters, Susan M. Olsen and her husband, Everett V. Olsen, Jr. of Chelmsford, Kathleen McDonald and her husband, Joseph of Lowell, Christine A. Lagasse of Lowell; his brothers Stephen A. Collins and his wife, Cheryl L. of Lowell, John T. Collins of Lawrence, Daniel F. Collins and his wife, Susan A.T. of Haverhill. He also leaves two aunts and an uncle, Dorothy and Roland Gagne of Methuen and Mary Gallo of Haverhill; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Maureen E. Collins.
