Mildred B. Mason

Dracut - Mildred B. (Gray) Mason, widow of Richard P. Mason, passed away in her sleep on Friday October 14, 2011, at her Dracut residence. She was 85.
Born at the Lowell General Hospital on August 26, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Manley and Irma (Hermann) Gray.
Mildred was a longtime resident of Dracut. She was educated in the Dracut schools and the former Bradshaw Business School in Lowell. She attended Mass Bay Community College in Boston, graduating in 1980 with an Associate of Science in Federal Business Administration.
Mildred was a veteran of WWII having served with the WAC – Women's Army Corps from 1944 to 1946. She held the rank of T-5 in the Medical Corps.
Her employment included the AATCC, at Lowell Technological Institute as an office manager, many years at the Lowell Sun as the business office manager. From 1970 to 1988 she was the manager of the outpatient clinic at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Lowell.
Mildred was a charitable person and she was a benefactor to many charities including, the American Diabetes Association, Boys Town, Paralyzed Veterans Association, Humane Society and the World Wildlife Fund.
Her hobbies included making stained glassed windows, tending to her garden and antiquing, which she did with her niece every chance she got.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Linda and Phillip Pernia of Dracut; a son Richard P. Mason, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren, Tabatha (Pernia) Macias and her husband Curt of CA, Laura (Pernia) Diefenderfer and her husband David, Celeste Burton all of California, Phillip G. Pernia, Jr. and his wife Bridget Kelley Pernia of Myrtle Beach, SC, Richard Shane Mason of MA; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a brother in law Alex Haas of Texas; three sisters in law, Olga Gray of Nevada, Jeanne Gray of MA, Kathleen Gray of Lowell with whom she enjoyed a very special relationship; many nieces and nephews including her Godchild, Eileen (Conlon) Plunkett and her husband Jack and family of Lowell, with whom she treasured a special relationship with. Mildred had special affection for her many cats over the years, especially her tuxedo cats. Mischief who passed away and Mason who remained by her side until her passing. She was also the sister of the late June Conlon and her late husband Edward, Virginia Haas, Irving Gray, Donald Gray, and Robin Gray.
