Mildred H. Dunlavey

Mildred H. “Millie” (Cohen) Dunlavey, age 96, died on November 9, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late James E. Dunlavey, Sr., until his passing in 2000.

She was born in Lowell on November 17, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Eva (Hammer) and Leo L. Cohen. She was raised and educated in Lowell and was a 1946 graduate of Lowell High. Prior to her retirement in 1987, Mildred worked 25 years as an assembler for Honeywell in Lowell, where she won several awards for the quality of her work.

Mildred will be remembered for her wit, perfectionism and generosity. She enjoyed crocheting custom-designed and perfectly constructed afghans and going out to Saturday breakfast with family. She loved going to Hampton and Salisbury beaches and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Millie enjoyed a wide variety of television programs, from Impractical Jokers to American Ninja Warriors to Dateline and Judge Judy.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Michael’s Church.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Maureen Miles and her husband, Ken of Virginia Beach, VA and Patricia Herman and her husband, Paul of Hudson, NH; her one grandson, her seven granddaughters; her 24 great-grandchildren; her two daughter-in-laws, Laura Dunlavey and Gail Dunlavey; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Michael J. Dunlavey, James E. Dunlavey, Jr. and Kevin M. Dunlavey and sister of the late Frank and Jack Cohen and Marcia Delisle.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mildred’s Life Celebration on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 10 until 11 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Service will be celebrated immediately following in the funeral home at 11 AM. Burial will be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
