Michael A. DeVincenzi, 52, a longtime Dracut resident died Tuesday April 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael was the beloved son of Aldo and Julia (Eliopoulos) DeVincenzi of Dracut who survive him.
Born in Lowell on April 30, 1961, Michael was raised in Dracut and attended Dracut schools. He attended Bishop Guertin High School graduating in 1979. Michael received a B.A. in History from Marquette University in Wisconsin and later received a M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Michael began his 20 year career at Lowell High School as a social studies and psychology teacher, and then advanced to become the Social Studies Department Chair. During his tenure at Lowell High School, Michael was both a tennis and weightlifting coach. In 2003 Michael was named MVC Tennis Coach of the year. Tennis was Michael's passion. He excelled at the sport, making many friends in the tennis community through his teaching and coaching. Michael loved reading historical novels, enjoyed watching the Food Network, and look forward to going to work every day.
There were many important things in Michael's life but his family and friends were his priority. He always cherished time spent with his children. Michael was fun, caring and thoughtful. Whenever you saw Michael, no matter how busy he was, he always had a moment to stop and listen. Michael was one-of-a-kind and will be greatly missed.
The DeVincenzi family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Michael's friends, college buddies, colleagues, doctors, nurses and the countless others who helped Michael in his courageous battle. Your kindness was so appreciated and greatly acknowledged.
In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his children, Brett DeVincenzi, Army National Guard of Dracut; Nikolas DeVincenzi, a sophomore at Dracut High School, Brittany DeVincenzi of Marlborough, MA; his granddaughter, Alyvia; two sisters, Gail Green and her husband Tim of Lowell, LeeAnn Conners and her husband Dennis of Lowell; a niece, Leah Green of Lowell; a nephew, Chris Green and his wife Amy of Lowell; a great niece and nephew, cousins and many dear friends. Michael was predeceased by the mother of his children, Stacy (Kanakaris) DeVincenzi who died on April 21, 2013.
