- Maurice L. Pelland, 74, formerly of Lowell and a retired Lowell Firefighter, died Monday April 23, in Daytona Beach Florida. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth J. (Munnis) Pelland to whom he was married to for 56 years.
Born in Lowell on November 28, 1937, he was a son of the late William and Isabelle (Gosselin) Pelland and was educated in the Lowell schools.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Mr. Pelland served his Country in the United States Army. He was appointed permanent firefighter with the Lowell Fire Department on May 17, 1964 and retired from the Department on January 14, 1984. Mr. Pelland was assigned to Engine 2 on Branch Street during his time with the Fire Department and deeply enjoyed the brotherhood while serving with his fellow firefighters.
Following retirement, Mr. Pelland and his wife moved to Florida where he and friends enjoyed boating on his boat the "Moe B. Dick". He and his wife also enjoyed going to the many dog tracks and casinos in Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dennis W. Pelland and his wife Kathleen of Lowell; two daughters, Denise A. Pelland and her husband Michael McDonald of Chelmsford and Debra L. Moreau and her husband Stephen of Hudson, NH; five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Dennis Pelland, Kayla Pelland, Audrey, Hayden and Owen Moreau; two step-grandchildren, Dylan and Dakota Bragg; a brother, Roger Pelland and his wife Claire of Nashua, NH and many nieces and nephews.
