New Ipswich, NH - Maurice W. Dumais, a resident of New Ipswich, NH, formerly of Lowell, widower of Doris (Briere) Dumais with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage at the time of her death in 2006, died peacefully December 22, 2009 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, NH.
Joseph Maurice William Dumais was a son of William J. and Therese J. (Daunais) Dumais, born on Sembember12, 1928 in the Dracut home of Civil War General William Hildreth.
He was educated in Lowell, Chelmsford, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.
Maurice was a 30 year member and past president of the New England Society of Electron Microscopy, Emeritus member of the Microscope Society of America, the Optical Society of America, and life member of the American Society for Metals. Mr. Dumais was author of many published scientific papers.
40 years as an electron microscopist, he had received the second commercial electron available in New England.
Some of Maurice's work locations were, MIT Lincoln Lab, Ilikon Corp. in Natick, US Army Material's Research Center, NASA Electronic Research Center - Sky Lab Project, US DOT/Transportation System Center, Harvard University, Gordon McKay Labs, and US Air Force Rome Air Development.
He was a veteran of WWII and Korea, having served in the Navy as Hospital Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps.
Maurice was a member of the National Association of retired Federal Employees, the American Association of retired Persons, the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Patient Resource Committee.
He was also a former owner of Modern Dental Prosthetics of Manchester, NH and Virgo Productions of Lowell.
He is survived by his niece Nancy Montgomery and her husband Gary Wilson, with whom he resided.
