- Maurice Donald Comtois, 76, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died unexpectedly July 6 while vacationing with his family in Bermuda.
Born in Lowell on December 30, 1936, he was a son of the late Joseph and Oliva (Beausoleil) Comtois and was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
During the Vietnam Conflict, Mr. Comtois served his Country in the United States Army. He retired from Demoulas Market Basket after thirty six years in various management positions at both the Tewksbury and Bridge Street stores.
Mr. Comtois was a Civil War enthusiast. He visited many battle sites and cemeteries tracking down Lowell soldiers and their burial places. He received the Preservation Award from the Lowell National Historical Park on the Civil War Sesquicentennial. Mr. Comtois was a longtime member of the C.M.A.C. Club and was an active participant in their bowling leagues. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 34 years, Marian O'Brien of Lowell; a son, Jeffrey Comtois of West Palm Beach, FL; two daughters, Lisa DiCicco and Sarah Comtois, a senior at Lowell High School, both of Lowell; a granddaughter, Kirsten DiCicco; his former wife Justine Lubinski Walker and several nieces and nephews from the Laferriere, Salvas, Diette and Comtois families and his in laws from the Lemire, Patton and O'Brien families.
Mr. Comtois was predeceased by his nine brothers and sisters, Lionel, Raoul, Donald, Roger, Roland, Lillian, Georgette, Simone and Pauline.
