Mateus B. Fagundes

Mateus B. Fagundes, beloved husband of Maria (Meneses) Fagundes, a Lowell resident, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, surrounded by his cherished family. He was 87.

Born on May 11, 1929, in Azores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Manuel and Maria (Borba) Fagundes.

Mateus served in the Army of Portugal before immigrating to America. He worked at the former Prince Macaroni plant in Lowell for over 20 years as a machine operator.

Mateus was a communicant of St. Anthony Parish in Lowell and held a life membership in the Holy Trinity Society and membership in Crusilho there.

He took pleasure in tending to his garden, harvesting grapes and making wine with them. Mateus looked forward to traveling back to his home in Portugal to visit with his relatives and friends there. Most of all for Mateus it was about family. He cherished all of the time spent with them.

Mateus' family would like to thank Circle Health, especially his nurse Brandi and his health aide Maria for the extraordinary care given to him.

Surviving him besides his wife with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this coming January are his children and their spouses, Mateus and Filomena Fagundes of Lowell, Ernestina and Antonio Correia of Lowell, Fernanda and Jose Medina of Lowell, Helena and Antonio Rosa of Lowell, Martinha and Jose Rosa of Tewksbury; ten grandchildren, Amy, Tony, Lisa, Melissa, Andrea, Matthew, Monica, Briana, Carson, Sarina; five great grandchildren, Adrian, Tiago, Benjamin, Antonio, Gavin; three sisters, Sister Ludevina of Portugal, Noemia Rocha of CA, Helena Morgan and her husband Richard of Lowell; a special friend Manuel Rosa of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Portugal. He was the brother of the late Manuel, Francisco, David and Joaō Fagundes, Livramente, Maria José, Maria de Lourdes.
