DRACUT - Mary A. (Janesko) Szafran, 96, a longtime resident of Dracut died Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Alphonse "Red" Szafran, who died in 1995.
She was born in Lowell on September 2, 1920, and was a daughter of the late Frank and Antonina (Gawel) Janesko. She received her education in Lowell school.
Mary spent her life tending to the needs of her home and family. Earlier in life she was employed as a winder in the Lowell textile mills.
She was a communicant of St. Francis Church in Dracut and a member of the former Polish American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary in Lowell.
Mary is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Cissy Szafran of Dracut; three grandchildren, Michael Szafran and his wife Allison of Conestoga, PA, Steve Szafran of Dracut, and Kevin Szafran of Lowell; five great grandchildren, Katie, Lily, Aidan, Brian, and Will; a sister, Lillian Lovering of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Mark Szafran, who died in 2010 and the sister of the late Victoria Janesko, Adam Janesko, Nellie Koczarski, Alexander Janesko, Rita Szczypinski, Bertha Kosik, Helen Pater, Francis Creegan, Lottie Szledziewski, and Olga Dziura.
