Lowell - Mary A. (O'Connell) Sterling, 74, wife of James D. Stirling, Sr., a Lowell resident, died unexpectedly Friday December 16, at the Lowell General Hospital.
She was born in Somerville on July 6, 1931, a daughter of the late Thomas and Alice O'Connell, and stepdaughter of the late Harriett O'Connell.
Mrs. Stirling previously resided in Billerica and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church while living there.
Prior to her retirement she was employed as a cashier at the former Bradlee's and retired as a cashier for Market Basket.
She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed taking trips to Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut.
Surviving her besides her husband are two sons, James D. Stirling, Jr. of Methuen, Thomas W. Stirling of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters and sons in law, Debra M. and William Ward of Jacksonville, FL, Alice "Jan" and John DiBerto of Hudson, NH, Theresa and Normand Marquis of Tyngsboro; three brothers and a sister in law, Joseph O'Connell of Billerica, Charles and Ann O'Connell of Wilmington, William O'Connell of California; three sisters and brothers in law, Rose and Robert Langlois, Ruthie and Richard Couture all of Lowell, Patricia and Neil Dooley of Billerica; nine grandchildren, Michelle DiBerto, John DiBerto, Kayla DiBerto, Leanne Marquis, Andrew Marquis, William Ward, Stephen Ward, Matthew Ward, Sean Ward; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late George O. Stirling who died in 1982.
