Mary Jane Veronese
Of Chelmsford. A shining light of love and compassion passed away on September 1, 2016 at the age of 90. She was the beloved wife of the late John "Paul" Veronese to whom she was married for 67 years.
Mary Jane was born in Salem, MA on July 26, 1926, the treasured daughter of John and Louise (Fitzpatrick) Lucie. She was educated in the Salem Public School system and graduated from Salem High School in the class of 1944.
In addition to caring for her family, Mary Jane worked as a hostess and waitress and as a secretary in a local insurance agency. She also enjoyed working with young children in the Early Childhood Program in Peabody.
Mary Jane was very active in her home parish of St. Ann in Peabody and volunteered at Birthright in Lynn MA, hosting and offering support and guidance to many young women.
However, her greatest endeavor, pursuing her deepest passion and commitment came later in life when she and her husband joined their dearest friends in their mission to establish Wellspring House in Gloucester, MA. The years spent living in community and serving as a case manager at Wellspring were the happiest and most fulfilling of her life.
She was dearly loved and will be forever cherished by her daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Raymond Grimard; her sister-in-law Mary Jane (Carr) Veronese; her nephew David Veronese; her niece and her husband Ann (Veronese) and Eric van Opstal, Jr.; two great-nephews Timothy and Andrew van Opstal; many beloved relatives and dear friends.
