Mary T. Elie, 87, longtime resident of the Centralville Section of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Ludger "Blondie" Elie, who predeceased her on October 29, 2010.
Born in Amesbury, Massachusetts on May 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Perry) Amaral.
Mary graduated from Lowell High School and from the Lowell Academy of Hairdressing. She worked at Newton's Hair Fashions, run by the Akashian Family in Downtown Lowell, from 1954 to 1997. Affectionately known as "Mary T." by her customers and co-workers, she was loved by her clients for her styling ability, great listening skills, and friendship. She was also a lifetime member of the Lowell Cosmetology Association. Mary enjoyed every moment spent at Newton's. Talking about her work always put a smile on her face.
Mary was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church. She was a very elegant and gracious person. She always put everyone else's needs before her own. Mary always had compliments for everyone she met and never failed to say thank-you. Her niece Barbara summed up Mary's life perfectly by saying, "This world is a better place because Mary was in it!"
Surviving her is her sister Bella Schledwitz of Lowell; two Godchildren, Terry Mello of Dracut, Massachusetts and Debi Moreau of Rochester, New Hampshire; and many devoted nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John, Joseph, George, and Manuel Amaral.
