Dracut- Mary Ellen (Costello) Adie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29th. She was the widow of John (Jack) Adie, who died in March of 2002. She was born in Lowell, MA, on March 20, 1931, to John and Ellen (Devine) Costello. She attended Keith Hall and Lowell Commercial College. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the Data Processing Department of the Lowell General Hospital. She was a communicant of St Frances Parish in Dracut where she previously served as a Eucharistic Minister, Catechist and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Dracut American Legion Auxiliary. Mary was an avid reader and loved to write short stories. She submitted many of her stories to the Dracut Legacy contest and won a number of prizes. She took an evening course at UMass Lowell and earned a certificate in creative writing.
Mary is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Mary Gail and Richard Gagnon of Ellington, CT and Joyce and David Stuer of Rye, NH. She is also survived by two sons and their wives, John and Jan (Doherty) Adie of Bristol, NH and Stephen and Janet (Casey) Adie of Dracut, MA. She leaves behind one brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Rosemary Costello of Acton, MA , and a sister-in-law Anne Adie of Lowell, MA. She is predeceased by her brother John Costello and his wife Pearl Costello. She leaves behind a very special cousin, Margaret Russell of Groton, MA. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and two great grandsons.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s Visitation on Friday morning, May 8, from 9 until 10:15 AM at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM in St. Francis Church, Dracut. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
