Mary (Riley) Courtemarche, a lifelong resident of the Lowell area passed away unexpectedly on Friday December 7th at Palm Manor rehabilitation facility in Chelmsford.
Born in Lowell September 1,1943, she was a daughter of Thomas and Helen (Hodge) Riley. Educated in the Lowell School System; she graduated from Lowell High School in 1961.
Mary recently celebrated her 52nd wedding anniversary with her husband Richard. They were married in September 1966. She greatly enjoyed the company of her children and especially that of her grandchildren.
A parishioner of St. Michael Church in Lowell, for over 50 years, Mary was very active in the parish for many years, especially when her children attended school there. She volunteered for many events, including, Bingo night, school yard duty and the Christmas Bazaar.
Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed the outdoors especially in Maine where she spent summers past with her family. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and acquaintances most recently at North Village in Chelmsford Massachusetts.
Prior to her retirement Mary was employed as a home health care worker at Intercity in Lowell. A job she enjoyed because of the company of her clients.
Mary was many things to many people during her lifetime. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister and an aunt, but most of all she was an all-around good-natured person and a true friend that you wanted to make time for in your life.
Mary is survived by her husband Richard. A son, Thomas and his wife Teri along with their two sons Jacob and Andrew. A daughter, Mary Beth Parise and her husband Tony; their son Anthony and daughter Lindsey.
Mary is continuing on her journey to meet her eldest daughter Paula, who passed away in 2008.
She is also survived by four brothers, Thomas and his wife Joanne, Brian and his wife Jeannie, William and Charles Riley, and a sister Katherine Comtois. She is also survived by a brother in law Gerald Courtemarche and his wife Kathy.
Mary is predeceased by three sisters, Theresa Sloan, Emily Edwards, and Maureen Methot; and a brother, Daniel Riley.
Mary also enjoyed a very special relationship with the Ritchotte and the Warsnip Families.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, from 9 until 10 AM on Wednesday. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 115 Middlesex Street, North Chelmsford. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
