Marie 'Rita" (Martel) Tousignant, 91, a resident of Dracut, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at a local health care facility. She was the beloved wife of Joseph "Arthur" Tousignant with whom she celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2016.
Born in Lowell on August 20, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Laroche) Martel.
Rita was a graduate of the former St. Louis Academy in Lowell.
She had worked as a spinner at the Abbott Worsted Mills of Lowell.
A resident of Dracut for 59 years, she was a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish and was a member of the Parish Ladies Sodality.
She was also a member of the Dracut Senior Citizens.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Rita enjoyed spending time with her family, especially vacationing on the Coast.
In addition to her husband she leaves two sons and their spouses, Henry and Susan Tousignant and Robert and Andrea Tousignant; grandchildren, Jaime, Michael, Robbie and his wife Ashley, Kelly, Matthew and Jeff; a great grandson, Liam; a niece, Yvette Fortier; a sister-in-law, Lena Tousignant; also many nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by: her daughter, Claire Tousignant; her sisters and their husbands, Claire and Omer Giguere, Jeanne and Armand Mainville, Florence and Hank Oday; her brothers and their spouses, Rudy and Lillian Martel and Romeo and Anna Martel.
