LOWELL -- Marie E. (Waterhouse) Maniatakos, 70, died unexpectedly at Lowell General Hospital on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. She was born in Lowell on May 13, 1938, daughter of the late Lester and Philomena (Baeyens) Waterhouse. She lived in Lowell her entire life and was a member of a large, well known family.

She was the loving wife of the late James Maniatakos to whom she was married for over 25 years. Beloved mother of John Maniatakos of Lowell, Kelley Maniatakos of Chelmsford, Phyllis Karlson & her husband Kurt of Dracut, and Antonia Krikoris & her husband Greg of Dracut.

Marie had 5 grandchildren, James, Andrew & Alyssa Karlson, Billy & Katie Krikoris whom she adored.

She is survived by her much-loved brother Lester Waterhouse & his wife Dorothy of Lowell, dear sister Rita Levesque & her husband Rene of Nashua; step daughter of Christine 'Madeline' Waterhouse of Lowell; step sister Judy Wilson & her husband Jerry of Dracut; niece of Harold Waterhouse of Dracut, Miriam Lemay of Lowell, the late Evelyn Boyle, & the late George & Rita Waterhouse of Palm Springs, FL. She was the sister of the late Lillian Stott of Chelmsford.

She was sister-in-law to Stella & the late George Maniatakos, Sophie Avila, Helen & the late James Mavraides, the late Effie & James Dabilis, the late Steve & Mary Maniatakos, the late Kelley & Howard McNiff, & the late Dorothy Maniatakos. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

Marie leaves a special group of friends at the Dept of Social Security in Lowell, where she worked for over 20 years receiving a Commendation Award upon retirement in 2007; also her "McFriends" whom she enjoyed getting together with and reminiscing; as well as her childhood friend Mary Jackson of Lowell.

Marie enjoyed vacationing and spending time with her family at Lake Winnipesauke, Seabrook Beach, Disney World FL and traveling throughout the United States, most recently taking a spectacular cruise to Alaska in August. She loved to knit making beautiful heirloom sweaters and blankets. She enjoyed weekly family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marie had a lot of life and love left to give and was taken from us too soon. She will be deeply missed.
