Lowell – Maria P. (St. Onge) Hodge, widow of John F. Hodge, a resident of the Acre section of Lowell died on Sunday February 23, 2014 following a period of declining health. She was 85.
Born in Lowell on August 15, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Ubald and Beatrice (Tessier) St. Onge.
Maria looked forward to playing cards and visiting the Senior Center in Tewksbury. She enjoyed dining out with her family and friends. Maria was an avid sports fan who watched baseball, football and basketball. She was always rooting for Peyton Manning. She also considered politics a sport and was follower of local and national policy.
Maria treasured dancing, especially with her husband John. She enjoyed traveling with him and visiting beaches and Fenway Park. Sometimes she looked forward to the quiet time at home watching television and enjoying a good movie.
Family members describe Maria as sincere, loving person. She was resilient, courageous and never gave up.
Maria cherished life and lived it to the fullest even while battling several heath issues over the past 32 years.
Survivors include a son John C. Hodge of Dracut; two grandchildren, Jill Hodge, John E. "Ted" Hodge; a sister Rita Underwood of Lowell; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the mother in law of the late Charlene Hodge, and sister of the late Hector and Robert St. Onge, Jeannette Delisle, Florence Desrochers, and Yvonne Troisi.
