Maria E. (Vieira) Gomes

Maria E. (Vieira) Gomes, age 89, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Northwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel G. Gomes until his passing in 2005.

She was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on November 13, 1933, and was a daughter of the late Maria (Sousa) and Jose Vieira.

Maria’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids and doting on her great-grandkids. She loved to cook and crochet and she loved watching all sports, especially the Red Sox.

She is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter, Maria Silva and her husband Jose of Dracut, MA; her two grandchildren, Alissa Cardia and her husband Mario and Joey Silva and his fiancé Ashley; her four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ryle, Bianca and Niko; her brother, Antonio Vieira Rocha and his wife Conceicao of Canada; as well as sister in-law’s and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Maria F. Gomes and the sister of the late Jose Vieira, Manuel Vieira, Francisco Vieira and Lubelia Santos.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Northwood for their care, compassion and kindness in caring for Maria.

Relatives and friends are invited to Maria’s Life Celebration on Friday, December 23, 2022 from 9 AM until 10 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM in St. Anthony Church, Lowell. Burial to follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016 or Northwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, 1010 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854.
