Maria L. Costa

Maria L. Costa, 79, a resident of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 with her family by her side.

She was the wife of Joseph Z. (Juca) Costa who recently passed last month. They would have just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Maria was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on December 9, 1940, and was a daughter of the late Jose Vieira Machado and Belmira do Carmo Flores. Maria moved to the United States in 1970 and started working as a seamstress.

Her pride was raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a proud member of Saint Anthony's Church and the Holy Rosary Society.
In her spare time, she loved to crochet, bake with her best friend Serafina, and travel back to her home in Terceira.

Maria is survived by her brother John and his wife Fatima Machado, of Terceira, her brother Francisco and his wife Marilda Machado, of California, her sister-in-law Theresa Flores of Terceira, her children, Maria Coelho and her husband, Jose, of Lowell, Ana Costa of Lowell, Cecilia Reis and her husband, Victor of Londonderry, and Lelia Crotty and her husband Kenneth, of Litchfield. In addition, she is survived by 6 grandchildren, Francisco, Jonathan, Kassandra, Vanessa, Kristina, and Amanda, and 6 great-grandchildren Kailea, Belmira, Justin, Sophia, Jaxon, Zanaiya as well as many nieces, nephews,godchildren, and cousins. She is also welcomed into heaven by her brother Jose Machado.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, 893 Central St. Lowell. Burial will follow in St Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
