LOWELL – Maria A. Barcelos (Fagundes), 96, a Lowell resident, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at a local health care facility with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose M. Fagundes with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in the Azores, Portugal on February 28, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Ferreira Cardoso and Edviges Augusta Barcelos.
Mrs. Barcelos was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Lowell. She enjoyed reading and taking care of flowers. Her favorite pastime was crocheting and she also made braided pot holders for her family and friends.
Mrs. Barcelos leaves her children and their spouses, Elsa and Billy Farrow, Jorge and Justinina Fagundes, Manuel and Fatima Fagundes, Antonio and Maria Jose Fagundes, Edviges and Jorge Fraga, Joao and Filomena Fagundes, Alda and Art Fagundes and Lucia and Fernando Borba; 25 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Joe Fagundes and was the last surviving of five siblings.
