Margaret "Peggy" Donoghue, a Lowell resident, wife of the late Francis J. Donoghue, died Sunday January 18, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was 83.
Born in Lowell on October 6, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Daniel J. Powers, Sr. and Margaret (Tenney) Powers.
Peggy lived and worked in Lowell for her whole life. She attended St. Michael's School and graduated from Lowell High School. Peggy was a communicant of St. Michael Church.
She worked in several of Lowell's Banks over the years, where she met her husband, and formed many wonderful friendships. She retired from Bank of New England, where she was warmly regarded as Switchboard Peggy. One customer, upon calling the bank, remarked that Peggy's greeting was what a smile sounded like."
After her retirement, Peggy's life was focused upon her children, grandchildren, and many friends. Peggy was never too tired or busy to listen, encourage, comfort, or share a laugh with those lucky enough to be a part of her life.
She was also a foster grandparent for the Campbell School for many years.
She is survived by three sons, Francis J. Donoghue of Columbus, OH, Stephen T. Donoghue of Jamaica Plain, Edward P. Donoghue and his wife, Tami of Franklin; a daughter, Jacqueline P. Prime and her husband, Douglas of Westminster; two grandchildren, Isaac and Julia Prime; a brother, Brendan Powers of Silver Springs, MD; a sister, Cecelia Nolan of Andover. She was a sister of the late Muriel Ogden and Dan Powers.
