Marcel J. “Mike” Lamoureux, 86, of Dracut passed away Thursday at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston shortly after suffering a stroke.
He was born in Lowell on December 15, 1924, the son of the late George and Eliza (Levesque) Lamoureux. He attended Lowell Catholic Schools and obtained an air conditioning and refrigeration certification in Minnesota. He had been a resident of Dracut for the past 50 years.
During World War II, Mike served as a Petty Officer in the Navy, aboard landing craft 794 in the Pacific, at the Marshall Islands and in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was an active charter communicant of St Francis Church in Dracut. He enjoyed ham radio, traveling, gardening, boating and various home projects and hobbies. He had a knack for fixing just about anything.
Mike worked at Western Electric (AT&T) from 1957 to 1990, as an air conditioning and heating engineer. He also ran his own business from the 50’s through the 70’s, under the name of Advanced Refrigeration Company, serving numerous stores and businesses throughout the local community.
He is survived by his wife Rose (Haggerty), whom they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past September. He leaves behind 2 daughters, Sheila and her husband Greg Robert Shaw of Tewksbury; Rosemary and her husband John Carnevale of Dracut and a son, Roger Lamoureux and his wife, Jeri (Simpson) of Phoenix, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Carol and Bobby Lamoureux of Phoenix, AZ, and Kevin and Ryan Carnevale of Dracut. He also is survived by a brother, Roland Lamoureux of Deltona, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mike was also the brother of the late Donat, Theresa (Cook), Emile and Claire (Marquis) Lamoureux.
