Manuel Avila Nunes

June 26, 1928 — April 17, 2021

Manuel Avila Nunes, 92, beloved father, grandfather and longtime resident of Lowell, died peacefully Saturday, April 17, at Northwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lowell after a lengthy illness.

Manuel, son of the late João and Maria Avila Nunes, was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on June 26, 1928. He married his beloved wife, Teresa (Areias) Nunes, on September 1, 1968 and immigrated to the United States later that same year. Manuel and Teresa made their home in Lowell, where they raised their family and enjoyed over 43 years of marriage until her death in 2011.

Manuel worked at Americraft Carton (formerly Prince Packaging) of Lowell until his retirement in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Lowell and a member of the Holy Trinity Society. Manuel enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling to Portugal – but what he loved most was spending time with family, where he would relish the opportunity to make everyone laugh. His quick wit and the mischievous twinkle in his eye, along with his kind heart, will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by many.

Manuel will be greatly missed by his two daughters: Rosa F. Pereira of Lowell, and Noemia F. Nunes and her wife Juliana of Townsend; two grandsons: Joseph Nunes Pereira and his wife Stephanie of Littleton, and Andrew Nunes Pereira and his girlfriend Annie Phan of Lowell; one sister-in-law: Margarida Areias of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Manuel will be held privately. For condolences, please visit www.mckennnaouellette.com
