LOWELL - Luis A. Hernandez, 84, a longtime resident of Lowell died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was the beloved husband of the late Judith (Ramos) Hernandez.
He was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on January 13, 1933, and was the son of the late Carlos and Cruz (Loriano) Hernandez. He received his education in Puerto Rico.
Luis proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was employed for many years in the maintenance department of the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.
Luis was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and his most cherished time was time spent in the company of his loving family.
He is survived by his four children, Maura Hernandez, Myra Ortiz and her companion William Miranda, Luis D. Hernandez, and Carlos L. Hernandez; fifteen grandchildren, Jay Jay, Dereck, Krystal, Tanya, Jessica, Junior, Jenissa, Deanna, Kaitlyn, Jasmin, Marianna, Ariana, Little Luis, Tatiana, and Kristiana; fourteen great grandchildren; Devon, Amya, Jada, Davianna, Nasiah, Jayliah, Jizziah, Victoria, Niah, Novi, Emma, Mariah, Eathan, and Aralia; his sister-in-law, Carmen Gonzalez; and several nieces and nephews, including MaryAnne Velazquez-Cotto and her husband Eddie Cotto and Joanne Velazquez and her fiance Jack Roman.
Luis' family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice Unit of the E.N. Rogers Veterans Memorial Hospital for the amazing compassion and care that they showed to Luis and his family throughout his stay there.
