Ludger J. Elie

Lowell - Ludger J. Elie, the beloved husband of Mary (Amaral) Elie, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Friday October 29, 2010 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was 84. He was born in Dracut on June 25, 1926, a son of the late John F. and Marie (Hebert) Elie. Ludger attended Dracut schools, and then enlisted in the Army where he served during the Korean conflict. He was attached to the 7th Infantry Regiment 3rd Division. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
Ludger worked in the family business, the former Golden Dairy on Loon Hill Road in Dracut. He was then employed in the maintenance department of the McDonald's on Bridge Street, Dracut, and was the maintenance supervisor for 10 Bridge Street in Lowell, retiring in 1988.
Ludger was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post 662 in Lowell and the Lowell DAV Post 25. Ludger was well known for his jokes. He brought joy, sunshine, and laughter to everyone he met.
Surviving him besides his devoted wife are a sister Yvette Beaudry of Dracut; two sisters-in-law, Bella Schledwitz and Jeannette Elie, both of Lowell; a brother-in-law Robert Ducharme of Dracut; two Godchildren, Terry Mello of Dracut and Debi Moreau of Rochester, NH; and wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. With much love and gratitude to a special niece and nephew, Ann and John Scannell for their devotion and help during Ludger's illness and at the end of his lifetime. He was the brother of the late Henry, Arthur, Gerard, Frederick, Leo, and Raymond Elie, Theresa Gagnon and Irene Ducharme
